A Vactioner's Paradise. Four Seasons of Fun.
There is nothing like the quiet beauty of snow falling gently to
the earth. When enough of it falls, as it always does in Eagle River,
another beauty is born: the smooth hum of a snowmobile engine. We
put a lot of work into being the Snowmobile Capital of the World®.
(Well, the hardest part is making the snow fall, but someone else
takes care of that.) There are trails to maintain, signs to put
up, races and a Championship Derby to run, and of course the Snowmobile
Hall of Fame to maintain. But we certainly enjoy the benefits of
the work and so will you. Ride the famous "Eagle River 500."
Thanks to the efforts of numerous snowmobile clubs our area has
over 500 miles of beautifully groomed trails. Our trail system is
a connection of thrills and adventures snaking through awesome views
and exciting terrain. This is World Class snowmobiling. You will
also find that Eagle River has affordable accommodations for riders,
and the hospitality is always generous. Can you see yourself turning
through majestic pines, speeding across a long frozen lake, enjoying
a warm drink in a friendly tavern after a long ride?
In the winter, if you're not on a snowmobile explore the trails
on your cross-country skis or snowshoes. You won't be alone. There
will be hundreds of tracks left in the snow-and not all of them
from skiers. A whitetail deer with her fawn will be close by. Our
Nation's bird, the bald eagle, will soar to your surprise. Lace
up your skates for a little ice skating or bring your tip-ups for
a relaxing day of ice fishing.
Ahh, the smell and feel of the cool, shady northwoods is
almost uncomparable. The vastness could swallow you. The beauty
will entice and surround you. So much land and not enough time to
explore it all. Try bicycling, a great sport and healthy activity.
There are hundreds of bikeable routes on and off road. From old
railroad beds, paved off road, to the twisting and turning trails
of the Nicolet National Forest There are maps available for the
casual rider and family to the great explorer. Families can enjoy
biking together under green canopies along lakes and streams.
Many local organizations and businesses are responsible for building
and maintaining these trails, so please patronize them. Enjoy all
the great northwoods has to offer but please remember to do it safely
and responsibly.
Eagle River is the heart of Northwoods fishing. Our lakes are known
for their trophy-sized musky, but you're also bound to catch walleye
and bass. When the leaves begin to turn and the fall foliage is brilliant,
it is an excellent time to catch musky. No matter when you visit
us, whether you boat out onto one of our beautiful lakes, panfish
with the kids, or fly fish for trout in the streams, Eagle River
is a world class fishing destination. And if you haven't been fishing
these waters for years and don't know the best spots like the back
of your hand, there are expert guides who will help you lure in
the big ones and provide lessons for a lifetime.
Head to the Nicolet National Forest or the Northern Highlands
American Legion State Forest when you need to get away from it all.
What you will find is nearly a million acres of magnificent forests.
Bring binoculars and check out the variety of songbirds that make
their home in the forests. You're likely to notice the bright, bobbing
crest of a pileated woodpecker, the high, haunting trill of a loon,
or maybe catch a glimpse of an osprey in flight. And while you're
walking, don't forget to look down-you won't want to miss the beauty
of snow-white trillium beds and deep purple violets (Wisconsin's
state flower)!
Twenty-eight freshwater lakes make the Eagle River Chain the place
for extraordinary water escapades.Want to learn to waterski? You've
come to the right place. If you're an expert barefooter or can cut
a turn with the best, Eagle River's the place to show your stuff.
If a slower pace is more your style, spend a day floating lake to
lake on a pontoon boat-listening to summer tunes, barbecuing steaks
and taking breaks from the sun in lakeside taverns and restaurants.
Don't forget to bring your fishing gear. Bring home the trophy musky
your friends can only tell tales about.
The Eagle River area boasts some of the most beautiful golf courses
in Northern Wisconsin. These golf courses will challenge you, whatever
your skill level. All surrounded by Northern Wisconsin's natural
beauty and a carefree atmosphere that allows you to really relax
after the spikes are cleaned and the score cards tallied.
